Notice on a slight format change:

Except for July 2012, these are mostly a collection of current devotional notes.

July 2012 is a re-write of old quiet times. My second child was born Nov 11, 1987 with multiple birth defects. I've been re-reading my QT notes from that time in my life, and have included them here. They cover the time before the birth and the few years immediately after the birth. They are tagged "historical." I added new insights and labeled them: ((TODAY, dd mmm yy)).

QT 11/3/2026 John 4:27-38, Jesus is the only hope for true life

John 4:27–38 (ESV) —

27 Just then his disciples came back. They marveled that he was talking with a woman, but no one said, “What do you seek?” or, “Why are you talking with her?” 28 So the woman left her water jar and went away into town and said to the people, 29 “Come, see a man who told me all that I ever did. Can this be the Christ?” 30 They went out of the town and were coming to him.

31 Meanwhile the disciples were urging him, saying, “Rabbi, eat.” 32 But he said to them, “I have food to eat that you do not know about.” 33 So the disciples said to one another, “Has anyone brought him something to eat?” 34 Jesus said to them, “My food is to do the will of him who sent me and to accomplish his work. 35 Do you not say, ‘There are yet four months, then comes the harvest’? Look, I tell you, lift up your eyes, and see that the fields are white for harvest. 36 Already the one who reaps is receiving wages and gathering fruit for eternal life, so that sower and reaper may rejoice together. 37 For here the saying holds true, ‘One sows and another reaps.’ 38 I sent you to reap that for which you did not labor. Others have labored, and you have entered into their labor.”

NOTE: The disciples went out look for physical food, but Jesus was involved with spiritual food. The disciples believed that the physical was very important. Jesus replied in an almost uncaring manner, that he had food, spiritual food. Putting the two imageries together, there was a saying at the end of the spring and before the fall harvests that 4 months until the real harvest. But at that moment, people from the Samaritan town were walking out to Jesus. He tells the disciples to look, here comes the harvest now.

I was attending to a emergency yesterday and could not finish this on the 3rd. Today, results of the election are in. It is disappointing to say the least but it is also not important. Our hope is not in elections but in God. Laws cannot save us, but Jesus can save people. If anything, our witness should be even more clear and compelling during the days ahead. The elections scream out the need -- there is a very large group of lost who need Jesus.

PONDER:

  1. What really is more important to me, the physical or the eternal?
  2. What am I really living for?

PRAYER: Father, give us a strong witness in these days. I pray for the true disciples to rise up and to know that we serve Jesus, not this physical world.
