Notice on a slight format change:

Except for July 2012, these are mostly a collection of current devotional notes.

July 2012 is a re-write of old quiet times. My second child was born Nov 11, 1987 with multiple birth defects. I've been re-reading my QT notes from that time in my life, and have included them here. They cover the time before the birth and the few years immediately after the birth. They are tagged "historical." I added new insights and labeled them: ((TODAY, dd mmm yy)).

QT 10/16/2024 Rom 1:18-20, The truth is out there

Romans 1:18–20 (ESV) —

18 For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, who by their unrighteousness suppress the truth. 19 For what can be known about God is plain to them, because God has shown it to them. 20 For his invisible attributes, namely, his eternal power and divine nature, have been clearly perceived, ever since the creation of the world, in the things that have been made. So they are without excuse.

NOTE: The gospel is God's response to our unrighteousness -- it is revealed by faith. Our problem is unrighteousness and a hatred of God (ungodliness). We suppress the truth, why? Because we hate God and we love our sin. My society has scoffed at every aspect of the early chapters of the book of Genesis: creation; Adam and Eve; sin as rebellion from God; an enemy named Satan; man and woman define marriage; two sexes only; work as good; value of gender roles; idea of shame; etc. Why? Because we suppress the truth that could change our lives and give us the hope we lack in today's day and age. We have no excuse. The truth is out there but it is found in a book called the Bible.

PONDER:

  1. Have I bought the lies of the world whose main mission is to suppress the truth of God?
  2. Do I seek truth in God's word?
  3. When a question comes up between what I have learned in the world and read from God, who do I believe?

PRAYER: Father, the church has bought much of what the world teaches. I pray we would repent of this denial of truth, and turn back to you and your word for real truth. Our only hope for revival is if the church believes and lives according to your word.
