Exodus 6:28–7:7 (ESV) —
28 On the day when the Lord spoke to Moses in the land of Egypt, 29 the Lord said to Moses, “I am the Lord; tell Pharaoh king of Egypt all that I say to you.” 30 But Moses said to the Lord, “Behold, I am of uncircumcised lips. How will Pharaoh listen to me?”
1 And the Lord said to Moses, “See, I have made you like God to Pharaoh, and your brother Aaron shall be your prophet. 2 You shall speak all that I command you, and your brother Aaron shall tell Pharaoh to let the people of Israel go out of his land. 3 But I will harden Pharaoh’s heart, and though I multiply my signs and wonders in the land of Egypt, 4 Pharaoh will not listen to you. Then I will lay my hand on Egypt and bring my hosts, my people the children of Israel, out of the land of Egypt by great acts of judgment. 5 The Egyptians shall know that I am the Lord, when I stretch out my hand against Egypt and bring out the people of Israel from among them.” 6 Moses and Aaron did so; they did just as the Lord commanded them. 7 Now Moses was eighty years old, and Aaron eighty-three years old, when they spoke to Pharaoh.
NOTE: It is a big task for two 80-year old men, proving that God can use us at any age to perform his will. We are never too old to serve. Moses spent his first 40 years thinking he as a somebody, and the next 40 years realizing he was a nobody. His next 40 years is proof that God can use somebodies who find out they are nobodies (D.L. Moody). God's answer to Moses fear, is that it is not Moses respect that is on the line. God himself is speaking to Egypt and the people of Israel. They will know he is God. In other words, God will make it work. God uses these two men, but he could use any two men, because his glory was at stake. This is not a project that had any chance of failure. God will intervene when needed. I would argue that is why at later stages, God hardens Pharaoh's heart, because he was not finished with what he planned.
When God give us a task to do, we need to trust him to bring the results and not our insignificant efforts.
PONDER:
- What has God called me to do?
- What do I fear to undertake?
PRAYER: Father, give me courage and strength to continue in the things you have called me to. The work is not dependent upon my efforts. It is for your glory and not mine. Give me grace to be faithful to your calling.
