Notice on a slight format change:

Except for July 2012, these are mostly a collection of current devotional notes.

July 2012 is a re-write of old quiet times. My second child was born Nov 11, 1987 with multiple birth defects. I've been re-reading my QT notes from that time in my life, and have included them here. They cover the time before the birth and the few years immediately after the birth. They are tagged "historical." I added new insights and labeled them: ((TODAY, dd mmm yy)).

QT 11/5/2026 John 4:43–48, Serious or playing games?

John 4:43–48 (ESV) —

43 After the two days he departed for Galilee. 44 (For Jesus himself had testified that a prophet has no honor in his own hometown.) 45 So when he came to Galilee, the Galileans welcomed him, having seen all that he had done in Jerusalem at the feast. For they too had gone to the feast.

46 So he came again to Cana in Galilee, where he had made the water wine. And at Capernaum there was an official whose son was ill. 47 When this man heard that Jesus had come from Judea to Galilee, he went to him and asked him to come down and heal his son, for he was at the point of death. 48 So Jesus said to him, “Unless you see signs and wonders you will not believe.”

NOTE: We are a fickle being. We are always looking for something different, never satisfied with life. We flirt with everything outside the will of God, not believing that God's will satisfies. We make excuses for why we cannot spend time with God. We misuse words, like "legalistic" to justify our laziness. We don't want to be serious with God, but we are serious when something is very important to us. We come out of shell and cry out for God when life is falling apart, but as soon as life gets easy, we revert to our laziness or our desire for comfort. Those in Galilee had every reason to believe in Jesus, but they wanted signs and wonders, like what had happened in Jerusalem. Signs and wonders do not last long. They are like a drug, you are always wanting more. But a serious and disciplined relationship with Jesus changes life in ways that can never be imagined. You can stop looking for politics to make your life better, and realize you already have the perfect eternal life made ready for you, if you would only believe.

PONDER:

  1. Am I really serious about God, or is he secondary to life?

PRAYER: Father, forgive me when the world turns my eyes away from you. Help me to know how to truly help others to grow in their walk with you. Give me wisdom and ideas.
