Notice on a slight format change:

Except for July 2012, these are mostly a collection of current devotional notes.

July 2012 is a re-write of old quiet times. My second child was born Nov 11, 1987 with multiple birth defects. I've been re-reading my QT notes from that time in my life, and have included them here. They cover the time before the birth and the few years immediately after the birth. They are tagged "historical." I added new insights and labeled them: ((TODAY, dd mmm yy)).

QT 6/24/2026 Heb 6:13-20, We have what we need, why do we ignore it?

Hebrews 6:13–20 (ESV) —

13 For when God made a promise to Abraham, since he had no one greater by whom to swear, he swore by himself, 14 saying, “Surely I will bless you and multiply you.” 15 And thus Abraham, having patiently waited, obtained the promise. 16 For people swear by something greater than themselves, and in all their disputes an oath is final for confirmation. 17 So when God desired to show more convincingly to the heirs of the promise the unchangeable character of his purpose, he guaranteed it with an oath, 18 so that by two unchangeable things, in which it is impossible for God to lie, we who have fled for refuge might have strong encouragement to hold fast to the hope set before us. 19 We have this as a sure and steadfast anchor of the soul, a hope that enters into the inner place behind the curtain, 20 where Jesus has gone as a forerunner on our behalf, having become a high priest forever after the order of Melchizedek.

NOTE: What are the two unchangeable things, God is unchangeable and His Word is unchangeable. God (the Father) raised Jesus (the Son of God) from the grave as the first fruits of our own resurrection. Throughout the New Testament, Jesus, the word of God, has declared the truths of God.

John 14:6 (ESV) — Jesus said to him, “I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.

John 10:9 (ESV) — I am the door. If anyone enters by me, he will be saved and will go in and out and find pasture.

John 11:25–26 (ESV) — Jesus said to her, “I am the resurrection and the life. Whoever believes in me, though he die, yet shall he live, 26 and everyone who lives and believes in me shall never die. Do you believe this?”

John 3:36 (ESV) — Whoever believes in the Son has eternal life; whoever does not obey the Son shall not see life, but the wrath of God remains on him.

Mark 16:16 (ESV) — Whoever believes and is baptized will be saved, but whoever does not believe will be condemned.

Luke 23:43 (ESV) — And he said to him, “Truly, I say to you, today you will be with me in paradise.”

They are many more declarations. It is impossible for God to lie. We have these truths before us. They are testified by the miracles performed before many eyewitnesses and the resurrection, also seen by many who wrote about it and went to a martyr's death rather than deny it.

I'm not convinced by martyr's, well at least second generation and greater martyrs who can believe something that is not true. But it is hard to deny first generation eyewitnesses. No one dies for a lie.

The message is absolutely true, and every day brings us closer to his return and the rapture of the saints into our resurrection bodies.

The danger of apostasy is an emotional response to events that ignore truth. We must remain anchored to the truth of God's word and not the deceitful lies of the culture.

PONDER:

  1. Am I anchored in the word of God? Daily?
  2. Have I traded truth for the emotional and deceitful lies of the world?

PRAYER: Father, open our eyes. I pray we would read your word daily. Nothing has the power to open our eyes like the word of God. It is a sword that digs deep into the soul. It is a fire that burns away lies. It is a lamp that guides us along the right path.
