Notice on a slight format change:

Except for July 2012, these are mostly a collection of current devotional notes.

July 2012 is a re-write of old quiet times. My second child was born Nov 11, 1987 with multiple birth defects. I've been re-reading my QT notes from that time in my life, and have included them here. They cover the time before the birth and the few years immediately after the birth. They are tagged "historical." I added new insights and labeled them: ((TODAY, dd mmm yy)).

QT 6/1/2026 Heb 1:10-14, The awesomeness of the savior

Hebrews 1:10–14 (ESV) —

10 And,

“You, Lord, laid the foundation of the earth in the beginning,

and the heavens are the work of your hands;

11 they will perish, but you remain;

they will all wear out like a garment,

12 like a robe you will roll them up,

like a garment they will be changed.

But you are the same,

and your years will have no end.”

13 And to which of the angels has he ever said,

“Sit at my right hand

until I make your enemies a footstool for your feet”?

14 Are they not all ministering spirits sent out to serve for the sake of those who are to inherit salvation?

NOTE: God the Father's agent in all creation was God the Son. He existed before creation because he created the very foundations of the earth. The universe will wear out someday, but not the Son who created it. The Son of God is God, and that is made very clear. The writer quotes a number of OT passages in this chapter. Here, the author quotes Ps 102:26-27, and Isa 50:9 and 51:6 to emphasize that everything wears away, but not the Son because the Son is God himself.

The doctrine of the trinity is not well understood, but it is in scripture. From the beginning, when God speaks using plural subjects and objects among the godhead (Gen 1:26) to the beginning of John's gospel, he even repeats the creation story, calling Jesus the Word of God.

John 1:1–5 (ESV) — 1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. 2 He was in the beginning with God. 3 All things were made through him, and without him was not any thing made that was made. 4 In him was life, and the life was the light of men. 5 The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it.

What does it mean for us who are believers? Jesus is our brother and our Lord. Sometimes, we forget the God-aspect of our savior. We may even be flippant in regards to his commands. But when we meet with God in the morning in our quiet times, and read his word, we are meeting with the God of the universe, the holy and awesome God. We should be humbled that we can meet with him. We should always make our time with him, our top priority of the day.

PONDER:

  1. How do I approach God?
  2. Do I realize the awesomeness of my savior?
  3. Is he my greatest priority of life?

PRAYER: Father, it is beyond an honor to meet with you and listen to you speak. I think of Mary, Martha's sister, who was enraptured at your feet listening to you. I want to have that same rapture and seriousness regarding your word. Forgive me when I rush through my time with you.
