Matt
16:13-23 (key:15-16)
|
Matthew 16:16, 20 (ESV) —
16 Simon Peter replied, “You are the Christ, the Son of the living
God.” … 20 Then he strictly charged the disciples to tell no
one that he was the Christ.
|
In verse
16, Peter declares that Jesus is "the Christ, the Son of the living
God." It wasn't that he recognized Jesus was the Christ, the Messiah.
Peter had learned from Jesus and watching Jesus and listening to Jesus, that
this was the Son of God. What that mean, I don't think he understood. But he
understood the truth.
|
Jesus
was ecstatic in verse 17 that Peter understood what he did. He did not rebuke them, because what Peter
said was true. Even though they recognized it, they were not allowed to tell
anyone the truth, at least until after the resurrection. Why? Because the
leaders had rejected Jesus already. A remnant would believe, but the Jewish
nation would not believe. Already, the mystery was taking shape, that a new
entity, the church, a mixing of Jew and Gentile would start soon.
|
Father,
I am a part of this new entity, the church, that you established. I am
privileged to be in the body of Christ. Thank you for the church. Help me to
remember the importance of the church in your grand plan.

These are just some random entries from my quiet times. Not all are included, as some are private or not very interesting.
Notice on a slight format change:
Except for July 2012, these are mostly a collection of current devotional notes.
July 2012 is a re-write of old quiet times. My second child was born Nov 11, 1987 with multiple birth defects. I've been re-reading my QT notes from that time in my life, and have included them here. They cover the time before the birth and the few years immediately after the birth. They are tagged "historical." I added new insights and labeled them: ((TODAY, dd mmm yy)).
