Notice on a slight format change:

Except for July 2012, these are mostly a collection of current devotional notes.

July 2012 is a re-write of old quiet times. My second child was born Nov 11, 1987 with multiple birth defects. I've been re-reading my QT notes from that time in my life, and have included them here. They cover the time before the birth and the few years immediately after the birth. They are tagged "historical." I added new insights and labeled them: ((TODAY, dd mmm yy)).

QT 9/10/2026 Eph 4:7–13, The church congregation's job is to do the ministry

Ephesians 4:7–13 (ESV) —

7 But grace was given to each one of us according to the measure of Christ’s gift. 8 Therefore it says,

“When he ascended on high he led a host of captives,

and he gave gifts to men.”

9 (In saying, “He ascended,” what does it mean but that he had also descended into the lower regions, the earth? 10 He who descended is the one who also ascended far above all the heavens, that he might fill all things.) 11 And he gave the apostles, the prophets, the evangelists, the shepherds and teachers, 12 to equip the saints for the work of ministry, for building up the body of Christ, 13 until we all attain to the unity of the faith and of the knowledge of the Son of God, to mature manhood, to the measure of the stature of the fullness of Christ,

NOTE: We (believers in Christ) were all given spiritual gifts. Some of the leadership and speaking gifts were given to build up the body of Christ in order to equip the saints (that's us) for the work of ministry. It is our job to minister, to share our faith, and to make disciples. It is not the job of the paid church staff to do our job. The pastor's responsibility is NOT to share the gospel with our neighbor, it is ours. And we can do it. Sharing Christ is as simple as sharing your story. If you don't have a story of how Jesus Christ changed your life, then maybe you are not born again. But if you do have a story, you know it, and you know that you have eternal life because of Jesus alone.

PONDER:

  1. Are you sharing your story with family, friends, co-workers, and neighbors?
  2. Have you truly been born again?

PRAYER: Father, I pray for opportunities and boldness to share the good news. I pray for sight to see situations where I can share something of the gospel. I pray to be a light and a witness to those around me.
