Isa
29:13-14 (ESV) And the Lord said: "Because this people draw near with
their mouth and honor me with their lips, while their hearts are far from me,
and their fear of me is a commandment taught by men,14 therefore, behold, I
will again do wonderful things with this people, with wonder upon wonder; and
the wisdom of their wise men shall perish, and the discernment of their
discerning men shall be hidden."
NOTE: When God says
that he will do wonderful things with this people, it is not what we would
classify as wonderful. The result will be wonderful--a renewed and right
relationship with God as opposed to a religious relationship (rules taught by
men). God sees things differently than we see them. His idea of wonderful is a
right relationship with him. Our idea of wonderful is life going the way we
want, such that we are happy (or at least think we are happy). True happiness,
more properly expressed biblically as peace and joy, are only found in a right
relationship with our creator. All else is fool's gold., that is, we think we
have found what will make us happy, but it falls far short of what God would
have us experience.
