Notice on a slight format change:

Except for July 2012, these are mostly a collection of current devotional notes.

July 2012 is a re-write of old quiet times. My second child was born Nov 11, 1987 with multiple birth defects. I've been re-reading my QT notes from that time in my life, and have included them here. They cover the time before the birth and the few years immediately after the birth. They are tagged "historical." I added new insights and labeled them: ((TODAY, dd mmm yy)).

QT 8 Nov 18, 1 Cor 14:13, Prophecy is also consoling the hurting

1 Corinthians 14:3 (ESV) — 3 On the other hand, the one who prophesies speaks to people for their upbuilding and encouragement and consolation.

NOTE: So here is a definition of prophesy. I tend to think of prophesy as exposing sin or bad behavior in another's life. That does fit under upbuilding. But the prophet is also good at consoling. The person is empathetic and understands another's hurts. He does not just attack, but he wants to see growth. And when appropriate, he encourages people. He tells them good things when he sees good things.

PRAYER: We do all need the gift of prophecy, not just challenging people to live godly lives but consoling them when they are hurting. God give us a love for others. Help us to really care. Not about ourselves or how we are perceived, but to really care and love others.
