Ephesians 6:5–8 (ESV) —
5 Bondservants, obey your earthly masters with fear and trembling, with a sincere heart, as you would Christ, 6 not by the way of eye-service, as people-pleasers, but as bondservants of Christ, doing the will of God from the heart, 7 rendering service with a good will as to the Lord and not to man, 8 knowing that whatever good anyone does, this he will receive back from the Lord, whether he is a bondservant or is free.
NOTE: I think we don't understand the ramifications of work. It was part of the original creation that God said was good. But after the fall, it was cursed by God with the result that work would be frustrating (weeds). But work can still be fulfilling and work can be life-giving. There are studies that show a higher percentage of people die sooner than those who continue working. The evidence is not conclusive because of many different factors, such as health and other underlying conditions. Additionally, some "retired" people volunteer to work in social / religious opportunities. But it would seem, that if you are working, you should be giving it your energy. To me, that means lifelong learning needs to be foundational. Never stop learning how to do your job better. But don't do it to please people, do it to please God. I think there is great blessing in doing your job well. Of course you can overdo it as well. Those who are workaholics and don't take care of the families spiritually can do more harm than good to themselves and their families.
The bottom line is that God call us to do our job well. I believe that includes learning how to do your job better. No matter what your job is, every job, no matter how menial, can be done better.

PRAYER: Father, thank you for work. You continue to give me opportunities to work even in my retirement. Thank you for the two toddlers I watch all day, 5 days a week. They are a joy. Protect my health. Help me to make right choices.
