Notice on a slight format change:

Except for July 2012, these are mostly a collection of current devotional notes.

July 2012 is a re-write of old quiet times. My second child was born Nov 11, 1987 with multiple birth defects. I've been re-reading my QT notes from that time in my life, and have included them here. They cover the time before the birth and the few years immediately after the birth. They are tagged "historical." I added new insights and labeled them: ((TODAY, dd mmm yy)).

QT 4 Feb 19, James 1:9-10, The rich should live in humility and good deeds

James 1:9–10 (ESV) — Let the lowly brother boast in his exaltation, 10 and the rich in his humiliation, because like a flower of the grass he will pass away.

NOTE: How does a rich person live as a Christian? In humility. We really don't own anything. It is all God's. We are not even sure why he has given it to us instead of someone else. What are we to do? Be rich in good deeds. Give as the Lord has given you. And most importantly, be humble. In some ways it is easier to be humble with riches than it is to be humble with achievements. But both are areas to exercise humility. If we can do it in riches, we can do it in accomplishments as well. And we need to quietly continue to do good deeds with the riches God has given.

PRAYER: Lord protect us from thinking that our riches are ours. Protect us from thinking more highly of ourselves. Protect us from the sin of thinking we should be treated better. Jesus was God and owned the whole universe and all power, and he lived the life of a humble carpenter and itinerant rabbi. May I live with such an attitude as well.
