Hebrews 12:25–29 (ESV) —
25 See that you do not refuse him who is speaking. For if they did not escape when they refused him who warned them on earth, much less will we escape if we reject him who warns from heaven. 26 At that time his voice shook the earth, but now he has promised, “Yet once more I will shake not only the earth but also the heavens.” 27 This phrase, “Yet once more,” indicates the removal of things that are shaken—that is, things that have been made—in order that the things that cannot be shaken may remain. 28 Therefore let us be grateful for receiving a kingdom that cannot be shaken, and thus let us offer to God acceptable worship, with reverence and awe, 29 for our God is a consuming fire.
NOTE: In the Exodus, God spoke from earth warning the people, and they did not escape. Every person, 20 years and older, except Joshua and Caleb died before entering the promise land. Now God speaks from heaven and tells us another shaking is coming, and a judgment is coming upon those who refuse to believe. We, who have put our faith in Christ, should be immensely grateful, because we have attached ourselves to a kingdom that can never be shaken. But this world, will be severely judged. God has promised a coming judgment. Of all people, we who have experienced his mercy and a changed life through the Holy Spirit, should be the most vocal in sharing the real good news. There is peace with God and eternal life to all who will accept his gift by belief in the finished work on the cross that paid the penalty for our sins.
PONDER:
- If I believe, am I eager to share the good news?
- If I believe, what am I living for, the things of the world, or a relationship with God?
PRAYER: Father, it will be a scary time during the last shaking. I pray for those who are left, that they would open their eyes to truth and hear the gospel with soft hearts, and turn and be saved.
