Rom
9:1-13
|
Romans 9:11–12 (ESV) — 11 though they were not yet born and had done nothing
either good or bad—in order that God’s purpose of election might continue,
not because of works but because of him who calls— 12 she was told, “The older will serve the younger.”
|
God
chose Jacob not because of works.
|
Esau
lived for his appetite. Jacob lived to deceive, except that after almost 40
years, he realized that he was tired of living by deception to get what he
wanted. He wrestled with God one night, actually closer to 40 years, and
determined that to be blessed he would not let go of God. He wanted God above
the things of the world that deception had gained him. He learned.
|
I
wrestle with you Lord and my sins every day. Sometimes I obey, most days I
feel I lose. I give in to pride or appetite or something that you have made
clear to me that I should not do. Forgive me. Thank you for choosing me not
on the basis of my works.

These are just some random entries from my quiet times. Not all are included, as some are private or not very interesting.
Notice on a slight format change:
Except for July 2012, these are mostly a collection of current devotional notes.
July 2012 is a re-write of old quiet times. My second child was born Nov 11, 1987 with multiple birth defects. I've been re-reading my QT notes from that time in my life, and have included them here. They cover the time before the birth and the few years immediately after the birth. They are tagged "historical." I added new insights and labeled them: ((TODAY, dd mmm yy)).
