2 Corinthians 1:8–11 (ESV) — 8 For we do not want you to be unaware, brothers, of
the affliction we experienced in Asia. For we were so utterly burdened beyond
our strength that we despaired of life itself. 9 Indeed, we
felt that we had received the sentence of death. But that was to make us rely
not on ourselves but on God who raises the dead. 10 He delivered
us from such a deadly peril, and he will deliver us. On him we have set our
hope that he will deliver us again. 11 You also must help
us by prayer, so that many will give thanks on our behalf for the blessing
granted us through the prayers of many.
NOTE: A strong
spiritual life is no guarantee against pain, suffering, and troubles. Paul's
life was very difficult -- and not just for him, but also for his traveling
companions. The health and wealth gospel is a lie from the pit of hell. The New
Covenant (NC) does not promise physical blessings (the Old Covenant did in fact
promise physical blessings), but the NC promises spiritual blessing. There will
be times of physical blessings (for which we should thank God), but our reward
is in heaven and from it we await our savior, Jesus Christ. He will rescue us
from the coming wrath and tribulation that will occur in the day of the Lord.
He will transform our body to be like his body without the temptations to sin.
In Genesis I noticed
that Adam and Eve never considered sinning against God until approached by
Satan. It did not enter their mind until Satan mentioned it. I wonder if that
is part of the secret that in the millennial kingdom we will not only have a
new body but our ears will be deaf to Satan.
PRAYER: Father, life
can be very hard at times. Have mercy on us. May we not forget to thank you
when times are good, and may we not forget you when times are bad as well.
Protect us from the evil one. Provide for us our daily needs.
