Galatians 3:23 (ESV) —
23 Now before faith came, we were held captive under the law,
imprisoned until the coming faith would be revealed.
|
The law
imprisoned us. The law didn't do anything for us except to reveal to us our
need for faith. The law may have held us in check -- a little -- but it also
exposed even more sin in us. The law does not have anything to do with the
promise given to Abraham, over 400 years earlier than the law was given.
|
The law
reveals sin, but for many it prevents them from seeing salvation. They
misunderstand their wretchedness by focusing on small parts of the law and
thinking they are good. In the end, they become deceived because of what they
want the law to be, not what it truly is.
|
Father,
Open our eyes to our sins. May we never think of ourselves as obtaining any
justification through our actions in the flesh. May we always remember that
Jesus did it all. Yes, we are completely justified and saved, but not because
of anything in us.

These are just some random entries from my quiet times. Not all are included, as some are private or not very interesting.
Notice on a slight format change:
Except for July 2012, these are mostly a collection of current devotional notes.
July 2012 is a re-write of old quiet times. My second child was born Nov 11, 1987 with multiple birth defects. I've been re-reading my QT notes from that time in my life, and have included them here. They cover the time before the birth and the few years immediately after the birth. They are tagged "historical." I added new insights and labeled them: ((TODAY, dd mmm yy)).
