Matt
7:15-23
|
Matthew 7:15–17 (ESV) — 15 “Beware of false prophets, who come to you in
sheep’s clothing but inwardly are ravenous wolves. 16 You will recognize them by their fruits. Are grapes gathered from
thornbushes, or figs from thistles? 17 So, every
healthy tree bears good fruit, but the diseased tree bears bad fruit.

Later
on, Jesus will declare to many who claimed to be his followers and did many
works in his name that he did not even know them. And he casts them out of
his presence. Unfortunately, this verse may be even more true today. With our
emphasis on tolerance and "easy-believism," many are led astray,
and do not realize that they are still lost. They have entered by the wide
gate, not the narrow gate.

What is
my life and my fruit? Does it attract people to the savior (grapes and tasty
fruit) or does it turn people off (thistles and thornbushes)? I am not saying
I want the gospel to be easy, but I am saying that my life needs to be
remarkably different from the world around me.

Father,
help me to see when my witness falls short of the standards of godliness. I
want to represent Jesus correctly and lovingly. I want to sacrifice for
others, not for myself. Give me grace to live in such a way.

These are just some random entries from my quiet times. Not all are included, as some are private or not very interesting.
Notice on a slight format change:
Except for July 2012, these are mostly a collection of current devotional notes.
July 2012 is a re-write of old quiet times. My second child was born Nov 11, 1987 with multiple birth defects. I've been re-reading my QT notes from that time in my life, and have included them here. They cover the time before the birth and the few years immediately after the birth. They are tagged "historical." I added new insights and labeled them: ((TODAY, dd mmm yy)).
