Matthew 13:44 (ESV) — “The kingdom of heaven is like treasure hidden in a
field, which a man found and covered up. Then in his joy he goes and sells
all that he has and buys that field.
|
I don't think many
of us see the kingdom of God in such seriousness. This man, when he found the
treasure, he sold everything he had to buy the field containing the treasure.
The ultimate treasure is eternal life in a relationship with the creator of
the universe. THERE IS NO GREATER REWARD. And yet we treat it so commonly.
And we think we obtain it so easy. We do, in the sense that it is beyond our
building to work for it. But do we desire it with all of our heart? Do we
truly repent of our past sins? Do we really mean that Jesus should be the
Lord of our life?
|
Lord, at the end
of this passage is another of the many references to Hell that you used in
your life on earth. You spoke of Hell more than any other persona in
scripture. And yet people like to ignore that aspect of who you are. God
forgive us for our stubborn blindness. Help us to see you as you truly are,
and not as we want you to be.

These are just some random entries from my quiet times. Not all are included, as some are private or not very interesting.
Notice on a slight format change:
Except for July 2012, these are mostly a collection of current devotional notes.
July 2012 is a re-write of old quiet times. My second child was born Nov 11, 1987 with multiple birth defects. I've been re-reading my QT notes from that time in my life, and have included them here. They cover the time before the birth and the few years immediately after the birth. They are tagged "historical." I added new insights and labeled them: ((TODAY, dd mmm yy)).
