Notice on a slight format change:

Except for July 2012, these are mostly a collection of current devotional notes.

July 2012 is a re-write of old quiet times. My second child was born Nov 11, 1987 with multiple birth defects. I've been re-reading my QT notes from that time in my life, and have included them here. They cover the time before the birth and the few years immediately after the birth. They are tagged "historical." I added new insights and labeled them: ((TODAY, dd mmm yy)).

QT 2 Dec 19, 1 Pet 1:24-25, The essentiality of the Word of God for life

1 Peter 1:24–25 (ESV) — 24 for
“All flesh is like grass
and all its glory like the flower of grass.
The grass withers,
and the flower falls,
25 but the word of the Lord remains forever.”
And this word is the good news that was preached to you.

NOTE: Everything that I touch and see is temporary. It is all going to pass away. There are only two things that I can interact with that are eternal: people and the Word of God. I can influence people toward an eternity in heaven by my relationship with them and my witness to them. But, the Word of God is the only perfect eternal thing on earth (outside of the indwelling presence of the Holy Spirit). Everything I do with the Word has value now and beyond this life. It has eternal value. And it has power to change me now. I can fix a lot of things, but I can't fix the decay caused by sin in my mind. The Word of God can repair my mind and my heart and other parts of my body damaged by sin. It can't do it completely, I need a new body to completely rid me of my body of sin. But for all the effort we put into external things for our body, the one thing we ought to do more is to immerse ourselves in the word.

PRAYER: Father, thank you for your Word and the cleansing effect it has on my mind and body.
