Notice on a slight format change:

Except for July 2012, these are mostly a collection of current devotional notes.

July 2012 is a re-write of old quiet times. My second child was born Nov 11, 1987 with multiple birth defects. I've been re-reading my QT notes from that time in my life, and have included them here. They cover the time before the birth and the few years immediately after the birth. They are tagged "historical." I added new insights and labeled them: ((TODAY, dd mmm yy)).

QT 10 Aug 2020, Hos 10:1, Wealth has a tendency to drive people away from God

Hosea 10:1 (ESV) —

1 Israel is a luxuriant vine

that yields its fruit.

The more his fruit increased,

the more altars he built;

as his country improved,

he improved his pillars.

NOTE: The prophecy and picture is that of Israel, the Norther Kingdom. But it really is a principle, and it could be any nation that worships the one true God. When riches increases, two things happen. 1) People's hearts grow cold to the true God. They don't see that they need him. 2) People increase their number of idols and passionately give their time and worship to their idols. An idol is anything that demands our time, our energy, our passion, and our allegiance (commitment). This is happening in my country today. The more we grow in riches, the more we fall away from the one true God, and the more we live for the creation (and not the creator).

PRAYER: Father, forgive us for our sin. Open our eyes by the power of your Holy Spirit. Cleanse us from our sins. Let us Jesus. Let us be like Jesus. But, also, be merciful.
