Hosea 13:9–11 (ESV) —
9 He destroys you, O Israel,
for you are against me, against your helper.
10 Where now is your king, to save you in all your cities?
Where are all your rulers—
those of whom you said,
“Give me a king and princes”?
11 I gave you a king in my anger,
and I took him away in my wrath.
NOTE: The issue was
not, wanting the king or even getting a king. The issue was relying on the king
and not on God. Our trust and reliance must be upon God. To do that, God must
be first, our first priority. How? We start our day with God and we end our day
with God. We meet with God during the day and pray to God as situations come
up. We meditate on the memorized word of God. The bottom line is that we make
God the focus of the day. For too many in the church, God is the afterthought
of the day and even the afterthought of the week. He is completely on the
sideline when times are good and we only turn to him when our life starts to
fall apart. This is not what it means to rely on God. It has to be daily and
has to be now.
PRAYER: Father, I
don't ever want to forget you. I want to make you the focus of my life in all
situations. As an application, I am going to work at making a habit of
reviewing my verses, and praying through scripture each day.
