Notice on a slight format change:

Except for July 2012, these are mostly a collection of current devotional notes.

July 2012 is a re-write of old quiet times. My second child was born Nov 11, 1987 with multiple birth defects. I've been re-reading my QT notes from that time in my life, and have included them here. They cover the time before the birth and the few years immediately after the birth. They are tagged "historical." I added new insights and labeled them: ((TODAY, dd mmm yy)).

QT 9/5/2023 Ezek 34:25-28, A better place

Ezekiel 34:25–28 (ESV) —

25 “I will make with them a covenant of peace and banish wild beasts from the land, so that they may dwell securely in the wilderness and sleep in the woods. 26 And I will make them and the places all around my hill a blessing, and I will send down the showers in their season; they shall be showers of blessing. 27 And the trees of the field shall yield their fruit, and the earth shall yield its increase, and they shall be secure in their land. And they shall know that I am the Lord, when I break the bars of their yoke, and deliver them from the hand of those who enslaved them. 28 They shall no more be a prey to the nations, nor shall the beasts of the land devour them. They shall dwell securely, and none shall make them afraid.

NOTE: I believe this covenant of peace is in reference to the millennial kingdom. In Ezek 16:60, it is described as an everlasting covenant. The old covenant would also provide peace but only if you obeyed the laws. The new covenant is different because it is based on better promises, and a perfect sacrifice. Israel is back in the land again but they are not enjoying peace. The rejected the Messiah and were rejected themselves until the end days when the kingdom is offered to the nation again. Then they will believe and then they will experience the everlasting covenant of peace. Individuals can experience it now, and many Jews have turned to Christ in this last century, but the nation still rejects their Messiah.

The covenant of peace is one that we also will enjoy and partake. With all of the pain that the world is going through now, and all of the evil on the streets, it will be so different to see things as God intended with God ruling and not men.

PONDER:

  1. Do we take time to thank God for the coming kingdom?
  2. Do we base our hope on creating our own little kingdom now, or are we seeking a better place?

PRAYER: Father, I believe a better place is coming, which saints of all times have sought:

Hebrews 11:39–40 (ESV) — 39 And all these, though commended through their faith, did not receive what was promised, 40 since God had provided something better for us, that apart from us they should not be made perfect.

Someday, we will experience the promise of the future kingdom. In the meantime, help me to live for Jesus here and now.
