Malachi 3:14–15 (ESV) — 14 You have said, ‘It is vain to serve God. What is the
profit of our keeping his charge or of walking as in mourning before the Lord
of hosts? 15 And now we call the arrogant blessed. Evildoers not
only prosper but they put God to the test and they escape.’ ”
NOTE: The complaint
is justified but short-sighted. Additionally, it ignores the moral requirement
of integrity and doing the right thing, independent of the results. Certainly,
no one should argue to do the right thing when there is material gain involved.
That is a mercenary morality. This is where faith is important. Faith is not
believing something that is not true. Faith is believing what God has said and
trusting that he will fulfill his Word in his time.
PRAYER: Father,
forgive us for our unbelief. Forgive us for expecting something out of our
so-called goodness. Forgive us of our
sin, our arrogance. Be merciful
I pray.
