Psalm 3:1–8 (ESV)
1O Lord, how many are my foes!
Many are rising against me;
2many are saying of my soul,
“There is no salvation for him in God.” Selah
3But you, O Lord, are a shield about me,
my glory, and the lifter of my head.
4I cried aloud to the Lord,
and he answered me from his holy hill. Selah
5I lay down and slept;
I woke again, for the Lord sustained me.
6I will not be afraid of many thousands of people
who have set themselves against me all around.
7Arise, O Lord!
Save me, O my God!
For you strike all my enemies on the cheek;
you break the teeth of the wicked.
8Salvation belongs to the Lord;
your blessing be on your people! Selah
NOTE: His enemies thought they had one. They had King David on the run. He had fled Jerusalem. But God would confound their victory and David would return to Jerusalem not many weeks later. There was good reason for David to worry, but he didn’t. Sleep is an important component of a spiritually sound man. When a person is doing the right thing, he can sleep, despite what the worldly odds look like the next day. In verses 5-6, we see David resting before the battle even though he is outnumbered. David's trust is in God. Peter writes,
1 Peter 5:7 (ESV) casting all your anxieties on him, because he cares for you.
We all have worries and anxieties. We can't do everything. We can't solve every problem. We need to bring all of our concerns to him, trust, and then rest.
PONDER:
- Do I struggle sleeping because I am thinking of all the things I need to do?
- Do I involve God in my day?
PRAYER: Father, I give you this day and the days ahead. There is much happening and I need to trust you in this time. Please take care of all the things and help me to live a life of service to you.
