Notice on a slight format change:

Except for July 2012, these are mostly a collection of current devotional notes.

July 2012 is a re-write of old quiet times. My second child was born Nov 11, 1987 with multiple birth defects. I've been re-reading my QT notes from that time in my life, and have included them here. They cover the time before the birth and the few years immediately after the birth. They are tagged "historical." I added new insights and labeled them: ((TODAY, dd mmm yy)).

QT 23 Jul 2020, Hos 4:13, God over comfort

Hosea 4:13 (ESV) —
13 They sacrifice on the tops of the mountains
and burn offerings on the hills,
under oak, poplar, and terebinth,
because their shade is good.
Therefore your daughters play the whore,
and your brides commit adultery.

NOTE: This verse is interesting, because their religious observance (to idols) was partly based on comfort. Other pleasures of the flesh included temple prostitutes and wine (lots of wine). They liked idolatry because it fed their flesh and made them feel good. We are just as guilty. Most people choose a church based on their feelings of comfort. Maybe those feelings are not fleshly, but some are. The color of a carpet or the number of times hymns are sung is getting pretty close, especially when we demand these things. A believer should not demand service fits his or her desire. Our focus needs to be on Jesus and our relationship to him. We need to hear the word, but even more importantly, we need to obey the word. That is our greatest failing in the church today. We don't apply the word of God.

PRAYER: Open our eyes Lord to our shallowness. Help us to see the weakness of our faith and our need for a deeper relationship with you. Help us to see the need to apply the word and not to fool ourselves.
