Notice on a slight format change:

Except for July 2012, these are mostly a collection of current devotional notes.

July 2012 is a re-write of old quiet times. My second child was born Nov 11, 1987 with multiple birth defects. I've been re-reading my QT notes from that time in my life, and have included them here. They cover the time before the birth and the few years immediately after the birth. They are tagged "historical." I added new insights and labeled them: ((TODAY, dd mmm yy)).

QT 3/1/2024 Psalm 33:13-22, Remembering God in the good days

Psalm 33:13–22 (ESV) —

13 The Lord looks down from heaven;

he sees all the children of man;

14 from where he sits enthroned he looks out

on all the inhabitants of the earth,

15 he who fashions the hearts of them all

and observes all their deeds.

16 The king is not saved by his great army;

a warrior is not delivered by his great strength.

17 The war horse is a false hope for salvation,

and by its great might it cannot rescue.

18 Behold, the eye of the Lord is on those who fear him,

on those who hope in his steadfast love,

19 that he may deliver their soul from death

and keep them alive in famine.

20 Our soul waits for the Lord;

he is our help and our shield.

21 For our heart is glad in him,

because we trust in his holy name.

22 Let your steadfast love, O Lord, be upon us,

even as we hope in you.

NOTE: God looks down and sees us. We are always in his vision. He fashions our hearts. Who we are and what we are, is because of Him. It is not our strength that his given us money, power, or prestige. It is not our strength that will save us. All that we are, is what he has given us and brought about in our lives. We are indebted and dependent upon Him at all times. We need to wait upon him. He is our help and our shield.

When times are good, remember him. When times are bad, remember him.

Lamentations 3:38 (ESV) —

Is it not from the mouth of the Most High

that good and bad come?

Isaiah 45:7 (ESV) —

I form light and create darkness;

I make well-being and create calamity;

I am the Lord, who does all these things.

Things seem very good these days. And that is all the more reason to be thankful and remember that God holds my life in his hands.

PONDER:

  1. How often (especially in the good times) do I remember to thank God?
  2. Do I only go to God in deep prayer when times are bad?

PRAYER: Father, I thank you for the word of God and the reminder to thank you. I don't want to be absorbed in life, I want to be absorbed in your will.
